Peter Jackson goes big with 48 FPS 3D video and Dolby Atmos audio.

'The Hobbit' to be released in Dolby Atmos:

Has he gone too far with this tech? Does he need to calm down and stop pushing the envelope of the cinematic AV experience? Will this movie be big on technology, but small on actual quality of content?

I think it would be an interesting concept, perhaps better suited for movies that didn't suck large, hairy testes. Yes I'm referring to the entire LotR series.

I'm flummoxed. Are you saying that LotR sucked balls, or that it didn't, but you're worried that The Hobbit will?

Personally, I love me some LotR trilogy, but I'm concerned that The Hobbit might sully the cleanliness of the tight package.

Damn the effectinator looming large with a wide-sweeping dismissal of the Lotr series. Thats good though; you gotta keep those critical faculties sharp. I enjoyed the series myself; I thought it did just about everything right, though I havent seen the entire directors cut for each movie.

I'm referring to the whole lot. I enjoyed them about as much as the new Star Wars movies.

In the article they mention that the Atmos system will allow seemless panning of audio through the various surround speakers. They should set that up in a spherical theatre so that there is an acoustic symmetry between each speaker and the single (hypothetical) viewer. And use the same speaker/amp configuration for each channel. And give me an automated bj.

LOTR = Tight like a nun's daughter's mouse's daughter's waste hole.

I just never really got into fantasy movies.. Can't do it.

Its all about true 360 surround sound. Instead of individual speakers making the surround, its just one cylindrical speaker that wraps around the entire theater.

To be fair, I also don't like most superhero or comic-based movies. I'd kick myself in the balls for not seeing the new Batman in the theater, though, but I can't.
